$24.00Named after an old estate located in the heart of Domaine Lafage, Mas Miraflors, the Miraflors Rosé is sourced from old vines of Grenache Gris and Noir, some nearing 80 years old, planted near the Mediterranean. Added to this is some Mourvedre that Jean-Marc planted here about 15 years ago. This a direct press rosé with the color coming from the skins of the pink Grenache Gris berries, and naturally, from the much darker Mourvedre and Grenache Noir. It is aged in tank for 4 months before bottling.

In 1810, Madame Clicquot invented the first Vintage Champagne, in 2008 Veuve Clicquot declared the 65th vintage of the Maison.
As with every Veuve Clicquot champagne, Pinot Noir dominates (61%) and provides the structure that is so typically Veuve Clicquot, followed by Chardonnay (34%) that adds finesse and elegance essential in a perfectly balanced wine, and then Meunier (5%) that rounds out the blend. To complete the cuvée, 14% Bouzy red Pinot Noir red wine is added. New to Vintage Rosé 2008 is that 5% of the wines were produced and aged in wooden casks (foudres) from forests in Central France, and this addition increases the champagne’s strength and aromatic richness. The cask-aged wines act as spices to the blend, bringing very lightly woody, vanilla and toasted aromas.

A bottle of Hoopla Rosé solves that summertime dilemma when it’s too hot for red wine but a white would match neither the food nor the mood. Hoopla Rosé is blended from a spectrum of black grapes: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Zinfandel, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petite Sirah, 2% Syrah. The dark color derives from the winemaking process of bleeding red wine tanks (aka “saignée) soon after the start of maceration in order to add concentration to those wines. The bled off pink juice is then fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and becomes a lovely rosé that can be served well-chilled with a range of fish or lightly grilled meats.
