Merlot is loved for its' boisterous black cherry flavors, supple tannins, and chocolatey finish. On the high end, it’s often mistaken with Cabernet Sauvignon and commonly blended with it.

Upstream from Bordeaux along the Garonne River lie the vineyards of Buzet, just north of Armagnac and southwest of Cahors. Buzet was recognized as an Appellation in 1973, as it’s clay limestone soils are ideal for Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Old World meets the New with a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot
Appearance: Deep ruby-purple at its core leading to a lighter rim and deeply stained tears.
Aroma: Elegant and assertive with notes of black cherries, ripe plums and raspberry preserves which are balanced by vanilla, star anise, cinnamon, toasted oak, saddle leather, and camphor.
Palate: Nearly full-bodied, ripe blackberries and black currants with elements of cedar and baking spices on entry, leading to a mid-palate featuring grippy tannins and notes of savory herbs and hints of dried rose petals. A blend based on Cabernet Sauvignon supported by Cabernet Franc and Merlot
Appearance: Deep ruby/purple core with black secondary color, lighter toward the rim with moderate plus viscosity and slow forming, moderately stained tears.
Aroma: Very aromatic and complex with ripe black cherry and cassis fruit, vanilla, cinnamon and licorice spice with sweet tobacco, cedar, leather and camphor notes.
Palate: Full-bodied with ripe black cherry and blackcurrant fruit complemented with baking spice and oak notes on entry. Sustained fruit and spice are joined by savory autumn leaf, cedar and leather on the mid-palate with mouth filling, fine tannins that lead into a long, complex and balanced finish with attractive fruit, spice, cedar and subtle camphor notes.

Associate Winemaker Christopher Munsell and Assistant Winemaker Ondine Chattan are the young, dynamic winemaking duo at the head of Canyon Road who are passionate about one thing: making high-quality wines a part of Americans' everyday dining experience. The winemakers work closely with local growers to assure quality fruit, vinify the lots of grapes separately, and then blend the lots before aging (as opposed to aging each lot and then blending.) This technique—and the expertise used to balance the characteristics of each lot against others—creates smooth, well-integrated wines of complexity and depth.
The wine is an intense and bright red color. The nose opens with intense fruity hints of blackberry, plum and currant, enriched by toasted and vanilla nuances. On the palate it is full and enveloping, soft and elegant, with a persistent finish that displays a pleasantly sweet and fruity aftertaste.
