$28.00The aromas of the 2018 Illahe Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir begin with strawberry, tamarind, and blackberry then broaden along the palate to include chalk, tobacco leaf, chocolate, and earth. The acid supports a complete yet not overwhelming tannin balanced between skin and oak. The wine retains its velvet mouthfeel through a process of clarification by racking.
Willakenzie's new estate-focused blend, the Estate Pinot Noir is pale ruby-purple in color with a lovely spicy nose of red licorice, dried rose petals and potpourri over a core of bright red fruits—raspberry, strawberry, rhubarb and red cherry with cinnamon stick accents. Light to medium-bodied, it features bright red fruits framed with oodles of savory/spicy notes in the mouth. It has firm, grainy tannins and wonderful juicy acidity, finishing long with spicy layers. This will show best after a couple of years in bottle.

WineNow comprised of 4 vineyards here in the YC AVA – where Big Table Farm resides – each brings a slightly different element to create a wine with the power the area is known for, but also the finesse that makes Pinot noir so beautiful. I visit these sites as often as all the others, but their proximity makes it just a little bit easier. Three are early ripening (warmer) and the fourth is one of the last to be picked.

This wine shows heady aromas of plum, raspberry preserve, stewed fruit and wet earth. Palate has liqueur qualities, juicy dark blue fruits, leather and black cherry. Full ripe tannins on the finish add unexpected but well received structure on the palate to hold all the dark fruit.

Fermented with whatever yeast blows in the door, minimal sulphur added and the wine basically goes from barrels to bottle with only a short stay (2-3 days) in a blending tank. Filtration, fining and other nonesuch are completely left out of the program. Simplicity at its finest!

It is important to me to be present during the growing season to understand what and how the conditions the grapes have been created in. I spent a great deal of time visiting each site as the grapes ripen to access and evaluate what will eventually come into the winery and decide when to pick, the most important decision I make. For this reason I choose vineyards that are close by. Sunnyside is my furthest flung, just south of Salem and takes me about 45 minutes to get there. Lucy and Tom’s fruit and resulting wine is so compelling that the extra time to get there is well worth it. Elegant and yet still muscular, this vineyard produces amazing wine year in and year out.

This wine offers a full rich nose, cinnamon, cedar and new leather. Great density on the palate, rich but with a focused palate as the acid holds this wine in perfect tension. Flavors are explosive, fresh. The structure here is based more on its acidity than tannins, though the tannins are there they just melt on your tongue. This wine has great length to accompany its generosity.

Illahe pinot gris is layered with complex fruit and starts with notes of crisp granny smith apple, bright lemon zest, and hints of clove, paired with light notes of papaya and starfruit. Part of the fruit from the 2018 pinot gris is from our estate vineyard and part is from our neighbors at Erratic Oaks Vineyard. Both sites are heavily influenced by the Mount Pisgah weather patterns and soil structures. It is also influenced by the neutral oak it is vinified in, which adds creaminess and texture with lingering flavors of almond butter and a spicy finish of cardamom creates an exciting and flavorful wine that is sure to leave you wanting more.

"Dark cherries and toasted spices make for a captivating nose with plenty of immediate interest. The deeply rich dark-cherries on the palate are cast along fluid, long and sturdy tannin lines. Strong finish. Drink or hold."

Mt. Jefferson Cuvée is a blend of the Cristom estate Pinot Noir vineyards along with exceptional fruit we source from neighboring vineyards in the Willamette Valley. These contributing sites have been thoughtfully selected over the years, and are planted on a variety of soil types, elevations and aspects, representing the Willamette Valley Appellation as a broader whole. Each of these vineyards are farmed by committed winegrowers we are proud to partner with, with each site adding to the character, fruit, and structure of the wine, giving “Mt. Jeff” its deserved reputation as one of the most stylistically consistent Pinot Noirs in the world.
