91 Points Connoisseurs Guide
"A quiet complement of green apple fruit sits beneath similarly constrained elements of toast and minerals in the fresh, nicely composed aromas of this comparatively refined sparkler, and, as is the Schramsberg norm, the wine is charged with plentiful, fairly tiny bubbles that last and last. The clean and crisp, slightly austere qualities of the genre come through at every stop here with nary a hint of sweetness surfacing along the way. Over the years, this producer has shown an especially adept hand with Blanc de Blancs, and nothing has changed with this latest rendition."
93 Points Wine Enthusiast
"A crisp texture and rather full body carry subtle spice and lean dry fruit flavors in this nicely reserved and complex wine. Apple skin, lemon zest and hints of toasted almond carry the palate and linger on the finish
90 Points Wine Spectator
"Crisp and luscious, with expressive cherry, Meyer lemon and yeast roll accents that linger on a refreshing finish"
Blanc de Noirs (white from black) is the counterpart to Blanc de Blancs (white from white). Made primarily from the red grape Pinot Noir, this is a complex, medium-bodied, brut sparkling wine. Schramsberg pioneered the Blanc de Noirs style in the United States, releasing the first such American sparkler in 1967. The key to producing this complex Blanc de Noirs is our vast and varied focus on diverse cool-climate vineyards. Pinot Noir from Carneros and Anderson Valley combine with fruit from low-yielding Sonoma and Marin coastal vineyards to develop a sparkling wine with a breadth of fruitful aroma and flavor. Select Chardonnay lots give zest and backbone to the blend.

The goal for this blend is a wine that is true to the Copain style of being an elegant expression of Pinot Noir, yet a bit more friendly to drink upon release. Founded in 1982, Roederer Estate is nestled in Mendocino County’s fog-shrouded, Anderson Valley. As the California property of Champagne Louis Roederer, Roederer Estate builds upon a centuries-old tradition of fine winemaking. The premium grape growing region’s proximity to the Pacific ocean gives rise to a gentle cycle of warm days and cool nights, allowing grapes to mature slowly on the vine and develop full varietal character.
Among the very few California sparkling wine houses that only sources estate-grown fruit, Roederer Estate is also meticulous about all its farming decisions. The winemaking process begins with in-depth knowledge of the Estate soils to introduce open lyre trellis system or high density plantation, extends to the decision to farm vineyards organically and biodynamically, and finishes by painstakingly tracking grape maturity to achieve perfect balance at harvest.
