The Hudson Vineyard Syrah is always a stand out in the Rudius portfolio for its considerably French-leaning style and and incredible balance. While many Northern California Syrahs are defined by their extract and viscosity, the Hudson is something altogether different. Both the mouthfeel and aromatics are dominated by secondary characteristics, brought to the forefront by beautifully balanced acidity.
Forrest mushrooms, roasted game meat and accents of cardamon spice are highlighted by just-ripe fig and a fresh brininess, owing to the distinct minerality of Hudson’s soils. The Rudius signature subtlety with oak on thier Rhones serves to preserve the pristine fruit character of the Alban Clone, while the purely native fermentation leaves the wine’s inherent aromatics intact. This is one California Syrah that strongly speak to its origin, and will undoubtedly remind you why you fell in love with the varietal and the terroir in the first place.

With enticing flavors of blackberry, plum, black cherry, mountain herbs, jasmine and even a hint of creosote undulating in and out as it evolves in the glass, this is a wine to spend an evening getting to know. One reason I always love our Syrah is that its personality varies so dramatically from vintage to vintage depending on the growing season, with weather conditions at the time of budbreak through veraison and harvest all having a profound effect on the outcome. One constant is the rich, thick texture in the mouth, especially the mid-palate, with just enough tannic astringency to give the wine some size without hampering its silky, elegant profile.
$20.00This estate Sangiovese tastes of cranberry and intense Bing cherry with undertones of anise and a lingering finish. This fragrant Cabernet Franc exudes aromas of violets, raspberry preserves, leather and cigar box. Cooler growing conditions near the Mendocino coast allow grapes to ripen at an even pace for balanced fruit and acid structure. Vinous / Antonio Galloni - "The 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Martha's Vineyard is a relatively immediate Marthas, with a real feeling of mid-palate density and weight that is almost out of character for this estate. Sweet, silky tannins give the 2009 much of its succulence. Scents of mint, pine and eucalyptus wrap around the juicy, inviting finish."
The 2009 Martha’s Vineyard is an impressive wine with remarkable clarity and depth of flavor.
The enticing dark garnet color of this Cabernet softens and elongates as you tilt the wine glass to see the translucence of the hue on the edges. Its classic, clean mint aroma evokes a smile in recognition of an “old friend”. On the palate, layers of complexity show an opulence of fruit, smoothly integrated with the core tannins of a slightly cooler growing season. This is a beautifully focused wine with textbook varietal character.
The overall vibrancy of this Cabernet promises strength and balance that will carry forward for many years of enduring enjoyment – a true treasure from the Oakville appellation within the Napa Valley.
Laguna Pinot Noir has always been about expressing the essence of the coast. There is a coolness to these wines—a sour red fruit, rhubarb, pomegranate, sweet tart thing that you get only from sites in ocean-impacted zones in Sonoma—Laguna shows this.
"The 2012 Hoopes Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet is made with the same care and thoughtfulness of our single vineyard series. A blend of fruit from three different sources in the Yountville and Oakville appellations, this stunning wine over-delivers for the price on intensity and richness “ – Lindsay Hoopes, Second Generation Proprietor
“On the nose it presents with sweet and oral elements. It reminds me of raspberry violet candies, sweet cherries, and delicate rosewater. On the mouthfeel, the wine is lush and generous, with a hint of sweetness and a full, but supple, texture. Its nish is focused and lengthy with an acidity that creates an integrated nish.” – Anne Vawter, Winemaker
Known for taking the road less traveled, Michael David Winery has always stood apart from the crowd. Whether it be their outlandish brands and packaging or their quirky personalities, Michael and David are definitely on a stage of their own and this wine showcases just that. The fruit for this brute of a Cab comes from the original “super freak,” Michael Phillips’ vineyard located only a medicine balls toss away from the winery. Tasting Notes
Bing cherry, toasted French vanilla bean and a hint of juniper berry on the nose. In the palate oak and fruit flavors are complemented with refined tannins and flavors of dark ripe plums, mission figs and toasted legumes.

The 2012 Winston Hill Proprietary Red Blend, which is 84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, is a pretty serious hombre. Dense ruby/purple in color with notes of créme de cassis, graphite and concentrated black cherries, the wine has good acidity, sweet tannin and a full-bodied mouthfeel. The purity and overall personality and character of the wine are impressive. It is a very youthful, relatively unevolved wine with tremendous upside. Give it another several years of bottle-age and drink it over the following 15-20 years.

Over the top and shattering to the veins, these wines possess major concentration and daring flavor. The original is the Earthquake Zin which came from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake. These dark and voluminous wines will denitely leave your senses quivering. Tasting Notes
Juicy, rich, bold, and filled to the brim with decadent black fruits. A hint of sweet vanilla and spice, this wine is smooth sailing but finishes with a punch of tobacco and toffee.
100 Points Robert Parker (An extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase, and consume.)
Bottled in July 2017 and composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc, the Dominus 2015 Proprietary Red Wine leaps from the glass with notes of fresh wild blueberries, crushed blackberries and black currant juice with touches of wild thyme, underbrush, iron ore and aniseed with wafts of lavender and pencil lead. Medium to full-bodied, the palate has incredible energy and vivacity, with the firm, pixelated tannins and lively backbone skillfully framing the muscular fruit, finishing with wonderful length and depth.
Christian Moueix began our tasting of the 2015 vintage with a big smile. “We loved the vintage from the beginning,” he commented simply. Dominus winemaker Tod Mostero explained why 2015 was special: “We had a lot of winter rain—15 inches in December 2014. But then we had a very dry spring—just two inches in March and April. This equated to less vegetative growth, because when you have very little rain in spring, the vegetative growth tends to be limited. This means you need less water in the summer, since the vines prepare themselves for a dry growing season. Because we dry farm, the roots grow deeper and access water that normally wouldn’t be available. We had a similar profile in 2013. The 2015 temperatures were higher than normal but not excessive. Yields were about the same as 2013—smaller than average. The grapes were small. We experienced an early budburst, flowering and harvest, with harvest starting on September 2nd and finished by September 30th.”

This is a dense and heavy take on the grape, but done with style, showing vanilla cookie, clove and deep anise spice atop the black cherry core. Gingerbread, red cinnamon and Christmas spice liven up the baked red-plum fruit of the palate, laced with rich oak flavorings. It's not a dainty wine, but it's certainly delicious.

The palate is gorgeously textured and lively, revealing sweet herbal notes of anise, dried sage and tobacco. Made from the younger vines of Harlan Estate, BOND, and Promontory, The Mascot shares a unique glimpse into the evolution Harlan's winegrowing estates
2009 was a temperate year with spells of warmth but free of extremes. This lengthy growing season cooled as harvest approached , embracing morning fog and moderate temperature throughout the picking. The resulting wines have a higher degree of density and flesh than the previous year, with aromatics more in the vein of dark fruit, spice, and earth. With a more masculine tannin structure, the 2009 will age very well over the next twenty to twenty-five years.
