The fruit for this wine comes from both sustainably farmed vineyards in Rutherford, and from local Napa Valley vineyards.
Lovely red fruit characters of pomegranate, cassis and cherry are nuanced by riper tones of plum and chocolate. The wine is dense, with deep tannins enhanced by notes of fennel, vanilla and lovey notes of caramel and graphite originating from oak barrel aging. A bottle of Hoopla Rosé solves that summertime dilemma when it’s too hot for red wine but a white would match neither the food nor the mood. Hoopla Rosé is blended from a spectrum of black grapes: 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Zinfandel, 4% Cabernet Franc, 3% Petite Sirah, 2% Syrah. The dark color derives from the winemaking process of bleeding red wine tanks (aka “saignée) soon after the start of maceration in order to add concentration to those wines. The bled off pink juice is then fermented separately in stainless steel tanks and becomes a lovely rosé that can be served well-chilled with a range of fish or lightly grilled meats.

The mouthfeel is just gorgeous and smooth though the fermentation was mainly in stainless with only a few oak puncheons added. It didn’t go through malolactic in order to keep its natural acidity. The aroma delivers quince, pear, Fuji apple, with just a hint of vanilla.
