"Cassis, red currants, fresh herbs, raspberries and red licorice. Medium-bodied with good savoriness to bolster the red berries and acidity crunch." - James Suckling, May 2019
"A ripe and friendly style, with a crowd-pleasing beam of cassis and cherry preserve flavors, laced with light vanilla and red licorice notes. The rounded finish reveals a flash of singed herbs, but the fruit wins out easily. Drink now through 2023" - Wine Spectator
The power of Napa shows in the rich, deeply red garnet color with aromas and flavors of dark red and black fruits, including black cherry, raspberry, blackberry and ripe plum. Notes of mocha, oak spice and cassis are accented with sea salt caramel and vanilla bean. Intense and full-bodied, the wine is balanced and well-structured with seamless acidity and evident but pleasing tannins. Approachable and welcoming now, the wine will continue to evolve and reveal more of its personality over the next decade.
97% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Petit Verdot
92 POINTS WINE ADVOCATE
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Bottled is blended 95.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3.25% Petit Verdot and .25% Malbec. Deep purple-black colored, it has pronounced black currant pastilles, black cherry compote and red currant preserves notes with touches of dried herbs, unsmoked cigars and fallen leaves plus a waft of cedar. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm texture of grainy tannins and oodles of freshness supporting the muscular black fruit, finishing with an herbal lift.
Aromas of mixed berry, chocolate, light earth and licorice lead into a full entry, with mixed berry flavors, a velvety mid-palate and a great backbone of coating, age-able tannin. Mouthwatering plum and blackberry flavors follow all the way through to the end. Layers of toasted oak are well integrated, adding structure and support to the ripe fruit flavors.
