The brothers, Luigi and Alfredo, make classic Barbaresco from cru vineyards in the commune of Treiso, the area with the highest elevation in the Barbaresco DOCG. Polished power and finesse are the hallmarks of this wine with a lighter profile of strawberries and roses. The fruit is ripe, but respectable in a way only fine Nebbiolo can be. Mountain herbs red raspberries, undertones of leather, black cherries and red currants. A decent amount of bottle age only adds to the approachable qualities of an already elegant wine.

When you’re one of Barolo’s most historic and renowned producers, like Oddero, owning plots of Piedmont’s most famous Cru vineyards is par for the course. The 2021 Oddero Barbaresco Gallina is a must-have for Piedmont collectors and lovers of magnificent Nebbiolo—drawing on fruit from 13- to 50-year-old vines in this famous cru in Neive beloved by Roagna and the late Bruno Giacosa.
On the palate, the wine is elegant and refined, with silky yet forceful tannins. The red fruit flavors are complemented by savory elements of cedar, tobacco, and a pronounced earthiness. There's a lively acidity that adds energy to the wine, leading to a long and juicy finish. While delightful in its youth, the 2021 Oddero Gallina Barbaresco also has the potential to evolve and develop further with age, rewarding those who cellar it with even greater nuance and complexity.
