Historic property in Pomerol, Château Taillefer is one of the crus that were accounted for on the map of France established in 1776 by the geographer of Louis XV. And, since the Napoleonic land register where Château Taillefer, its cellars and its plots were described with the utmost precision, all has been preciously conserved for over two centuries.
The famous iron deposits, characteristic of the terroir of Pomerol, those are at the origin of the name of Taillefer. They impart complexity to the wine together with minerality and aromas of truffles and violets. It was recounted by elders that the plow « toils the iron » from having lifted and turned over countless amounts of iron oxide in the vineyards of Taillefer.

The grapes for this wine are harvested from vineyards that border the Lalande de Pomerol appellation. The grapes undergo a three-day cold maceration; the alcoholic fermentation then proceeds for eight to ten days. The wine is racked several times during its élevage in stainless steel and cement tanks before being bottled after an egg-white fining. The grape composition is predominantly Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc in the blend that provides additional structure to the wine. Approximately 8,000 bottles are exported under our care for the US market annually.$26.00
This wine's intense pink rose petal color is slightly darker and more robust than the rosés of nearby Provence, which is indicative of the wine itself. A nose of macerated strawberries, raspberries, and peaches, with a faint earthy and peppery base, comes together with a fresh clay minerality on the soft, round, and slightly weighty palate.
Well-integrated ripe cherry skin acidity is key in retaining this sturdy rosé's balance and freshness, making it a fine companion for richer foods like grilled lamb loin chops, burgers, spicy sausages, fresh tomato sauced pastas, and mezze platters.

All about precision and texture. There's clearly a lot of concentration and underlying power in the focused core. It's chalky and all sinew on the almost chewy, lengthy finish, giving it line and energy. The scent of almond croissant from barrel fermentation and lees time lingers alongside apple fruit. Really good stuff that will only get better with time in bottle.

This is a project born out of friendship and a longing to return to ones roots. Master Sommelier and proprietor of Miura Vineyards, Emmanuel Kemiji and Chefs Gerald Hirigoyen, Sylvain Portay and Laurent Manrique. In 2010 a winery was finally completed and over time the production will reach a scant 2500 cases but the object here has never been commercial and is instead driven by quality and pride.
The name Clos Pissarra is derived from the Catalan word for slate, as this is the soil that covers the regions of Montsant (sacred mountain) and Priorat (priory), that lie about 85 miles southwest of Barcelona.
This Grenache, Syrah blend is a dense, ripe and juicy wine with moderate acidity. Less than 500 cases produced

"2008 was a dry but even vintage with a smooth ripening of the fruit throughout the summer. This was our second vintage for El Mont and while it is uncommon in Priorat to find bottlings exclusively made out of Grenache (most wines found here are blends of Carignan and Grenache that sometimes contain traces of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah) I feel very strongly that the alluring aromas, focus and purity of fine Grenache makes for a very elegant and intense wine."
