The 2019 Zinfandel Turley Estate has a medium ruby color. The nose begins with graphite, tar and aniseed and fleshes out to bright black and red berries with wafts of potpourri. The 2018 growing season in the Russian River Valley was slow and steady, starting off brisk and relatively dry. This cooler weather pattern led to a long flowering period, but fruit set was not impacted and the resulting yields were higher than typical. The methodical pace of the vintage carried through the summer with moderate temperatures allowing for uniform ripening. Harvest was later than recent vintages, pushing into late September—closer to a more classic seasonal pattern. Both the extra time on the vine and the extended harvest window allowed warmer sites to be picked while still fresh and cooler sites to ripen fully. As a result, our 2018 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir has a wonderfully ripe profile with intensity and a generous structure that is complimented by a backbone of freshness and balance. 2018 was a classic Pinot Noir vintage.

The Vacheron cousins own 1 hectare of vines in the lieu-dit of Le Paradis. Their plot is on a steep south-facing slope with shallow limestone soils. The soil is so thin and poor that the vine roots grow deeply into fissures in the bedrock below. Winemaking:
The grapes were hand harvested, then crushed into a stainless fermentor. 24 hours later, the must was inoculated with FX-10 yeast then pumped over daily for 15 days prior to pressing. After completion of malo-lactic fermentation, this cabernet sauvignon was aged for 27 months in French and Hungarian oak then blended with 5% Merlot & 5% Tannat prior to bottling.
Tasting notes:
Intense aromas of red plum, black cherry and dark chocolate with wisps of cinnamon are complimented by a background of subtle oak. Rich flavors with layers of large, soft tannins interlocking with complex oak tannins for a long, elegant finish.
Cellaring:
While enjoyable now, this Cabernet Sauvignon will continue to improve with proper cellaring for another 4-8 years in the bottle with a plateau of best drinkability from 2023-2028.
