This small-production wine comes from a single 30+ year-old vineyard on caillottes soils in the village of Chavignol, one of the finest terroirs in Sancerre. Domaine de Sacy Sancerre Blanc is a remarkable expression of Sancerre's finest terroir, crafted from old vines up to 70 years old, organically farmed in the renowned Kimmeridgian limestone soils. The wine bursts with flavors of ginger, gooseberry, lemon, ripe pear, and peach, with a distinctive wet stone minerality. The Kimmeridgian soils, filled with fossilized marine life, lend a subtle, sea-like essence, making this Sancerre one of the richest, purest, and most delicious examples you'll encounter.

The Pellé family estate has been cultivating four hectares of Sancerre in the village of Montigny since 1987 (in addition to their parcel in Menetou-Salon). Sauvignon Blanc grown in the Sancerre vineyard’s Caillote soil, a sort of pebbly clay-limestone, consistently produces beautiful, fine-textured wines. The family’s vineyard practices strive to achieve balance: composts are applied to balance soil nutrients, and neither pesticides nor herbicides are used. Work is dictated by day-to-day walks through the stony vineyards.
An exceptional example of fastball Sancerre, and irresistible to boot, Pelle's La Croix Au Garde is light as a feather, layered with delicate citrus, and laden with minerality. Green apples, citrus blossom, lemon oil, and freshly sliced limes all delicately dusted with mineral talc and sea salt. This lengthy finish is marked with whispers of cured lemons, crushed seashells and fresh herbs.

All about precision and texture. There's clearly a lot of concentration and underlying power in the focused core. It's chalky and all sinew on the almost chewy, lengthy finish, giving it line and energy. The scent of almond croissant from barrel fermentation and lees time lingers alongside apple fruit. Really good stuff that will only get better with time in bottle.

The palate confirms this fruitiness and brings a nice and clean mineral note. Served at 10-12°C, this very concentrated wine expresses its strong personality. With three to five years of bottle-aging, the wine gains roundness, richness and complexity.

The Vacheron cousins own 1 hectare of vines in the lieu-dit of Le Paradis. Their plot is on a steep south-facing slope with shallow limestone soils. The soil is so thin and poor that the vine roots grow deeply into fissures in the bedrock below. Le Paradis is an explosively aromatic wine, dense on the palate with a broad mineral character kept in check by a sinuous acidity that keeps things lively.

Chambrates is located on a plateau above Le Paradis on limestone and red clay soils. This is a generous example of Sancerre due to its terroir with more of a citric quality to the fruit, a richer texture and a mineral finish. It is fermented and aged for 12 months in large French oak vats.
