Medium garnet color. Bramble, licorice, petricor, and preserved violets fill the nose. Classic textbook Nebbiolo on the nose, with delicate red fruit and earthy undertones. Complex palate that layers cranberry and morello cherry with amaro, gravel, and black truffle. Long tannins and pronounced acidity give shape to the full body. With time this wine will surely overdeliver and exceed expectations.
The DeForville family emigrated to Piedmont from Belgium in 1848 and established themselves in the village of Barbaresco in 1860. Here, the family was instantly engaged in growing the Nebbiolo grape under the direction of Gioachino De Forville. Now, the fifth generation is in place, with Valter and Paolo Anfosso controlling the nearly 11-ha domaine.
Obtained from hand harvested Nebbiolo grapes from the cru vineyards of Loreto, Ovello and Cavanna vineyards in the municipality of Barbaresco. The Loreto is the top Cru wine for De Forville. It is a wine with a good body, rightly tannic and harmonious. Aged for two years in wood, it expresses its velvety flavor and aromas after a few years of storage in the bottle.
Complex notes of dried cherry, dried rose petal, leather, crushed rock, black tea and sweet tobacco. The palate is well structured and firm.
Harvest is done by hand to select the best fruit. Only the most mature berries are chosen, it is followed by a secondary selection to avoid any compromise on quality. Wild yeasts (pied de cuve) that are naturally present on the skins of the berries are used to obtain exceptional wines that really reflect the terroir with complex flavors and texture. After resting with the skins for 30 days, the juice is fermented in Troncais barrels of French oak barrels for 12-15 days with frequent pump overs. e wine then ages 18 months in Slavonian oak barrels and at least an additional 6 months in the bottle. The end result is a wine with garnet color with red fruit and cassis aromas with licorice, smoke and caramel notes with silky tannins.
The brothers, Luigi and Alfredo, make classic Barbaresco from cru vineyards in the commune of Treiso, the area with the highest elevation in the Barbaresco DOCG. Polished power and finesse are the hallmarks of this wine with a lighter profile of strawberries and roses. The fruit is ripe, but respectable in a way only fine Nebbiolo can be. Mountain herbs red raspberries, undertones of leather, black cherries and red currants. A decent amount of bottle age only adds to the approachable qualities of an already elegant wine.

The only single-vineyard Barbaresco on the market from the ‘Cavanna’ cru, this wine beautifully showcases the family’s elegant, hands-off style of traditional winemaking. Complex aromas of roses, violets, anise, leather, and mushroom with elegant red fruit, earth, and fine tannins. Stunning!

Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco has a subtle nose, some spice, green herb and bright, cherry notes, but just now it is not very forthcoming. In time, the nose opens a little to warm, spicy, dried fruits aromas. On the palate there is plenty of bright, juicy, mouthwatering acidity, although the wine feels a little leaner in the middle. This is a pretty, quite fragile style but very approachable and enjoyable, offering flavors of sun-dried fruit rather than fresh berries. It is refreshing and lively with gentle tannins and a tangy finish.
