I had never been in an emergency room, a least not as the patient. I had never broken a bone. I had never had surgery for any reason. All that changed in a matter of 6 hours and I checked all those boxes on Sunday January 24, 2016.
I was walking from our living room into the kitchen, in the dark, as I had done numerous times. I took yet another chance of that path being clear that night and did not turn on the light. As it turned out it was not clear. Our Siberian Husky, LuLu happened to be laying by her food bowl, I tripped over her and not knowing which direction she was laying, and trying not to land on her, I tried jumping further than I should have and broke my tibia and fibula upon landing. Well, like I said the next 6 hours were filled with experiences I would rather not repeat.
There is never a good time to endure trauma, but it was Mardi Gras and Southern Napa is on the City of Daphne’s parade route. Therefore, the show had to go on!
We had planned an exclusive evening for a limited number of people to come and take a ‘Cab Ride’ with us on Friday, January 29. We had 7 delicious Cabernets and small bites on the menu for the event. Our house guests’ would also get to experience VIP viewing of the Apollo Mystic Ladies Parade.
Our Southern Napa family, in my absence, stepped up and put on one helluva ride! Jim ran the show with the help of Blair, Lindsey, Hunter and of course my mom, Mary! They enlisted special guests, Jeremy Willams and Scott Dumas to pour the wines and prepare the food. Scott was the second guest chef we had ever had at Southern Napa in 4 years. Since he prepared the menu and the food, I do not have a recipe to share. I do know Scott made an amazing white bean and garlic spread on a crostini! They ALL did an awesome job and would not have happened without all of their hard work. Especially Jim, my partner, my husband, my best friend and love of my life!
Thank you seems so little to say all of them so, I gave them a valuable piece of advice. Always turn on the light before you enter a room!!!

A spritz is a perfect apéro cocktail, refreshing and low-alcohol. It opens the palate instead of overwhelming it, making it an ideal pairing with whatever delicious snacks you are serving.
We are honored to have been one of the very few independent retail wine stores to be allocated a bottle of the 2020 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti ÉCHÉZEAUX...
Domaine de la Romanée-Conti wines are some of the most expensive in the world! It is a combination of three factors: very high quality, reputation and exclusivity, and consequently supply and demand.
