Eshcol Red is an authentic and approachable red blend, sourced entirely from our Main Ranch vineyard. Our winemaker Bryan Kays crafts a unique blend each year, featuring the strengths of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot complemented by the inclusion of smaller amounts of Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc. Sage Canyon Red has a finished blend of 50% Carignan, 25% Grenache, 20% Mourvèdre, and 5% Syrah. Each lot of wine was fermented naturally using native, wild yeast, and the grapes were all crushed by foot so as to not break the stems left in the fermenting must. The finished wine is bright and flavorful, with a fascinating combination of mineral and earthiness. The Carignan fruit is stylish, incorporating elements of wild cherry, plum and black fig, while the Grenache and Mourvèdre add exotic aromas of wild herbs and lavender. At Terre Rouge, we specialize in wines made from Rhône Valley varietals. For this wine we were inspired by the wines that originate a bit further South along the coastal Mediterranean where vineyards grow alongside the garrigue, French for the local chaparral. Our vines grow in a similar environment, surrounded by manzanita, pine, toyon, yerba santa, and chamise. This is a blend of two-thirds Syrah and one-third Cabernet Sauvignon that is complex and savory, while still being accessible now. It is modestly priced and eminently quaffable.

The 2021 Red Wine California is a new Bordeaux-based red wine that Duncan Arnot Meyers and Nathan Roberts made initially to take the place of the 2020 Cabernets that would have been released around this time but were compromised by smoke. The Red Wine was initially intended to be a fun project, but Arnot and Roberts may have stumbled into what is really a pretty serious red with real potential. The 2021 is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon (Massa, Bedrock and Gordenker), 20% Cabernet Franc (Persia) and 20% Merlot (Massa). A powerful, old-school wine, the 2021 is going to need a few years to shed some tannin. 95+ points
